Well hey Internet, happy end of September everyone, we’ve almost done it. We’re almost through with the sad sack of cinematic nonsense that was September, so let’s take a look at the slightly less sad, but no less sacky sack of sadness that will be Octobers movies… oh boy.

Umm… okay so… what say we broaden our search a bit and just do a fall preview shall we?? October is literally a wasteland of terrible, it’s quite possibly the least appealing month of movies since… well this month.

Fall Movie Preview

The Girl on the Train – October 7th Amway Trains sponsors this heartfelt movie about the magical journey of one young girl on a train ride through America!! Ha ha, no I’m kidding. There’s a murder and a girl and another girl and Luke Evans and… look everyone gets murdered or is a murderer  or thinks they’re a murderer. It’ll probably be a good movie in a “You’ll be convinced you’ve probably killed someone at some point AND that everyone is out to kill you” sort of way.

Shin Godzilla – October 11th Japan responds to our mostly fine but kind of dumb Godzilla movie with their own movie… that will probably be mostly fine but kind of dumb. On the plus side their movie will probably have more actual Godzilla in it, unlike ours that should have been named “Ineffectual and Confused Military: With Cameo by Godzilla.”

Godzilla is apparently going through his “red phase.”

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back – October 21st Look, I really liked the first Jack Reacher movie but no one else but me has ever seen it, I’ve also really like the trailers for this movie but there has literally been 2 youtube views of the trailer and one of them says “This is was Tom Cruise” next to it so… I’m not exactly expecting Star Wars money here.

Inferno – October 28 – Wait wait… they’re still making these movies??? For those of you who don’t know this is the third book in the Divinci Code book series of which the first movie was kind of fine and the second movie was pretty bad. Of course those were good books, Inferno really isn’t. Not that it matters, this series is based on the premise of Tom Cruise staring uninterestingly at some puzzle box or something and then solving it because… the Church is a lie… or something. Didn’t the last one revolve around somebody trying to become the Pope by framing the Pope and all the little Popeletts for murder?

It’s an Inferno!!! Of boredom…

See what I mean?? That’s October guys. 4 interesting movies, at least 2 of which will probably be real bad. Let’s move on to November shall we?

November 4th – Doctor Strange – And here it is ladies and gentleman, are reward for suffering through two months of cinema dribble. By all accounts this is gonna be a fantastic movie, with a great cast, and (hopefully) create some really cool new options for the Marvel cinematic universe with the introduction of magic. REAL excited for this and for the ever fantastic Benedicit Cumberbatch doing his best Hugh Laurie from house impression.

Stranger Doctors.

November 4th – Trolls – Because you had to put out this movie sometime didn’t you?

November 4th – Hacksaw Ridge – this movie is basically the exact opposite of Trolls. Realistic World War 2 movie depicting the horrors of war from the perspective of a young medic (played by Andrew Garfield,) and then Trolls a movie that was made for kids… because we could.

November 11th – Arrival – This movie actually looks REALLY cool. Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner star in a movie about man’s first contact with an unknown alien species. I know that doesn’t sound very cool, but trust me: it will be.  Based on a super interesting short story called “Story of Your Life” but… I already did that one super nerd-out with Doctor Strange so I’m not gonna talk too much about this one… It’ll be great though.

Attack of the bean… FROM SPACE!!!

November 18th – Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them – I’ve thus far been pretty unimpressed by the promo stuff for this movie but the last trailer actually looked pretty good! It felt a lot more “grown up Harry Potter” than anything else has so far and it gave us a better feel for how good the whole movie could end up being. My interest-o-meter has gone from a 5 to an 8, so we’ll see how that goes.

November 23rd – Moana – It’s a Disney animated movie guys. It’s gonna be great. I mean, until they drop the ball on one of these that’s what we have to assume right? I mean this looks really good in and of itself anyway, but it’s Disney, when was the last really bad Disney animated movie?? I mean Brave wasn’t awesome but even it wasn’t bad. I fully expect this to be whimsical and entertaining and just a little bit deeper than I’m expecting it to be. All Hail Disney!

Yeah, well tell the Ocean to leave a message would you?

And there you have it folks, all we have to do is survive October, and then it’s all sweet sweet cinema all the time! We can do it!!!… maybe.

Internet!! Great gatsby but it’s been a huge week for trailers!! And where have I been you ask? Where have I, your noble and wisdom filled guide been while you floundered in a sea of trailers?? I don’t know… here and there… doing stuff… the usual.

But regardless of my eery and unexplained absence from the blog on Tuesday, I’m here now, so rest your weary and worry filled heads upon my blog bosoms, Internet. And let us heal (and watch some trailers) together.

Comic-con is watching you!!

Doctor Strange

Look, there’s not a ton else I can say about this one except for: Holy son of purple capes I am excited for this!! I mean Cumberbatch, Ejiofor, magic entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this whole thing is gonna be absolutely fantastic. I’m all in. I’m beyond all in, I took my all in out, then put it all back in again and I shook it ALL about.

Wonder Woman

Okay so, yes, Batman V Superman was… underwhelming. And scattered. And grim. And frankly just kinda dumb. But, Wonder Woman was on of its better parts, and this trailer looks great! World War 1 is an awesome setting, Chris Pine will be great, and the movie looks like it might finally be a departure from Zach Snyder’s grim gritty grit grit style of storytelling. That said, I’ve officially hit the “I’ll believe when I see it” point with DC movies. They’re gonna have to make something that is legitimately good before I get too excited about any of their movies from here on out. You’ve hurt me DC… you’ve hurt me bad… and only you can fix it.

Justice League

Does anyone get the feeling that someone is walking around the set of this movie, slapping Zach Snyder’s wrist overtime he says anything about “darker” or “frown more” or “let’s have Batman kill a ton of people for no reason.” I mean this looks good guys. Affleck is in full on charming Affleck mode, Ezra Miller seems to do a good Barry Allen, Jason Momoa basically IS Aquaman so, what’s not to like??? Oh yeah, that’s right: DC can’t make good movies!! Look, maybe this is the turning point, I mean it certainly could be, right? It LOOKS like they fixed some of the problems from Batman V Superman… but as stated above, at this point the impetus is on DC to prove they can do this well.

Kong: Skull Island

So… it’s okay that I don’t care about this right?? Cause I’m pretty sure I don’t. I mean, whatever, the cast looks good, and umm… I mean someone gave King Kong just ALL the steroids apparently but, I’m pretty sure I still don’t care. Hang on… checking… nope. Don’t care.

The Great Wall

So, don’t take this the wrong way but… what are all these white people doing in Ancient China?? Also, yes I’m aware that this wasn’t a comic-con trailer, but it was either this or the VERY generic looking King Arthur movie and as little as I cared about Skull Island I care about that WAY less. So anyway, this looks… like a thing. I mean… this could be good right?? That said: it comes out in February. And if we’ve learned one thing over the years I’ve been running this blog it’s that, every movie (even movies that could be good) sucks in February. So I don’t know… it’ll probably be interesting at least, Matt Damon, monsters, the great wall of China, plus whatever weird half baked excuse we come up with to explain all the white people! I’d pay ten dollars just to see that!!

So there you go guys!! We did it, we made it!! Together. Like we were always meant to! Check back next Tuesday when I reach into the old mailbag, and pull out some old mail questions!! I mean… new questions. (email with yours!)

Well hello Inter-friends and welcome back to party Island, the Love Boat, Gilligan’s Island, and Green Acres… Don’t really know why I decided to name a bunch of old TV shows in my opening guys but there it is. Indelibly splattered across the face of the Internet forever. Carved in the most permanent of stone all across the face of this noble web, never to be forgot.

But moving on from my errant footprints in the sands of time let’s talk about some trailer shall we? Starting with the thing that I mentioned in my last blog that looked really awesome…

The Magnificent Seven –

Yup, the first couple pictures to be released from this looked pretty sweet and now that we’ve seen the first trailer for it I am all sort of excited. I mean that thing just looks awesome, and fun, and cool and all westerny. Admittedly I have a soft spot in my heart for westerns having watched MANY John Wayne movies many and many a year ago when I was but a small Pilgrim, but still this looks pretty great. Denzel, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke… for some reason. I’m very excited for this.

Jason Bourne

I can’t decide whether I really care about this movie or not. I mean it looks fine, it will undoubtedly be: a movie in which things get punched. But I feel like I’ve seen everything this trailer has to show me before. I don’t necessarily think it will be a bad movie and I love the addition of Tommy Lee Jones, who (like literally every old person in this entire movie series) will eventually end up getting killed by Jason Bourne professional ageist assassin. I’m also not convinced it’ll be anything more than just another spy movie that happens to have Matt Damon’s face attached to it. Loved the original and 2 and 3 weren’t bad, but this movie is definitely entering that dreaded, been there, done that, territory.

When a Monster Calls

This was one of my most anticipated films of the year, and it still looks like it’s gonna be really great. It’s based on a great book and has the ever awesome, soothy growly chocolate covered voice of Mr. Liam Neeson. I may change my name to Connor O’Malley just so I can have a recording of Liam Neeson saying my name with his tree-monster voice. I mean that’s just fantastic.

Dr. Strange

Okay, so, don’t get me wrong, I am VERY excited for Civil War next month… but this is the thing I’m most excited to watch this year. I mean this looks great, and VERY different from other Marvel entries and it’ll just be cool to see how this changes everything in the Marvel-verse thus far. I mean, they’ve been VERY careful about introducing too many supernatural things on Earth, basically keeping things very science-based even when they were on Asgard but Strange is basically all magic all the time. This also looks a good bit darker than the rest of the Marvel-verse has been thus far and while obviously I’m sure there will be some levity here, I do think this will be more grim throughout as they try to both counter balance the weirdness of the magic and try and step outside of the Ant-man/Ironman comparison to do something more outside the box. I’m all in on this and am very interested to see what’s coming down the pipe as we barrel on through 2016.

So there you have it guys!! A quicker post today but I wanted to get my thoughts out on these before they were lost forever to the four winds. Check back next week when I do a May preview and once again visit the classic Disney vaults to ruin some childhoods!!
